Most of the young girls have no feminine hygiene products to use once their monthly cycles begin. These young girls use cloth or rags or nothing during this time. The girls stay isolated and unable to go to school for 1-2 weeks per month. They miss out on so much school during the year they often simply stop going which condemns them to never getting an education and having any chance to improve their lives.

 

The girls have no money to purchase and even if they did there are no stores from which to buy them. A couple of Kenyan companies have made a washable and reusable pad the girls can use. Some simple instructions on how to use them and wash them will enable the girls to stay in school for the entire term.

 

No longer isolated and no longer absent from school these girls can complete their education and have a much better chance of getting a job that moves them to a much more self-sustaining position in life. We want to include these reusable feminine hygiene products in the girl’s backpacks.

Regular Dental Check Ups
The Maasai are not in a mindset of going to the dentist to prevent programs. They only go if a tooth is broken or they are in pain. No one tracks them to make sure they return.   We are establishing a computer based tracking program where we will record every child’s first visit to the clinic then create a program for them to be brought back to the clinic using the local school system.   Choose a quantity below to make a donation.

School Backpacks (Boys and Girls)
Education is very important to the Maasai children but they have few supplies. No pencils, no paper, no notebooks, no crayons.   They walk to school with nothing, use what little is at the school and maybe, if they are lucky, get a chance to use one of the few text books. They then walk home with nothing.   We want to provide well equipped backpacks with all the basis supplies every school child needs. But here is the magic!! We will go to the schools and tell the kids bout the backpacks. We will give them the backpacks when they come to the clinic and have their dental check-ups, have their sealants placed, and have a 30 minute oral hygiene lesson. The Kenya Initiative for New Dentistry is a mission to bring preventive dentistry to the remote villages of the Maasai tribe people of Kenya and Tanzania.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Our goal is to enroll every school child in the Maasai Mara Region of Kenya in a twice a year dental check-up program and place decay preventing sealants on all of their molars and premolars.
